Neil Carmichael launches “Save the Local Pub” campaign

Pubs are closing each day in Britain. Local pubs are under threat and some are in the process of closing now. Pubs are part of our national heritage and play a vital role in our communities.
Neil Carmichael commented, “The Labour Government has been heavy handed through regulation and is prone to massive tax hikes. These efforts were intended to reduce, quite properly, binge drinking but have, in fact, damaged the very places where drinking is often in a more controlled environment.”
Neil added, “Pubs are often family businesses, providing jobs and support for local brewers. 600, 000 people are employed by the sector accounting for some £28 billion per annum to the UK economy.”
Neil Carmichael is calling for action to be taken:
- Taxes on lower alcohol drinks such as low alcohol beers should be cut
- High strength ciders and alcopops should have appropriate increases in tax
- Existing laws to deal with irresponsible drinkers and premises should be enforced
- Adults should be trusted to make informed choices
- Pubs should be supported as a vital part of local communities.
