Neil Carmichael and David Cameron visit Rowcroft Medical Centre

Key policies announced and welcomed
David Cameron, Leader of the Conservative Party, and Neil Carmichael visited the Rowcroft Medical Centre in Stroud. They met doctors, patients, nurses and support staff.
David Cameron confirmed that the NHS is a “number one” priority for the Conservatives and the budget will be ring fenced.
Several key policies were highlighted including:
Maternity networks will be introduced so that mothers can have genuine choice as to where they have their baby.
Set NHS providers free to innovate by ensuring they become autonomous Foundation Trusts.
Give GPs the power to hold patients budgets and to commission care on their behalf.
Tackling health inequalities by starting a ‘health premium’ to target extra money to the poorest areas.
Ring fencing funds for public health so that the prevention of illness gets the attention it needs.
Neil Carmichael commented, “Our vision for the NHS protects its values, ensures proper funding, and provides patients, doctors and nurses the freedom to provide the best services all free at the point of use and available to everybody.”
“I am delighted that our health manifesto was brought first to Stroud when it was launched by David Cameron on 4 January.”
