STROUD MP LEARNS A NEW SKILL IN AN INSPIRATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010 STROUD MP LEARNS A NEW SKILL IN AN INSPIRATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Neil Carmichael visited Ruskin Mill College, Nailsworth, where young people with learning difficulties are trained in traditional crafts and vocational training. Neil tried his hand on a pole lathe on which students make legs for stools they hand make from wood from the woods they also manage.

The College, which has charitable status, is looking for funds to complete a forge where students will be able to learn metal working skills going back to the middle ages. Neil has pledged his support to the fund raising campaign and will attend an event in July.

Neil Carmichael commented, “The support for students at Ruskin Mill is first class. It is inspirational to see how the activities and training can improve people’s lives.”

Neil added, “Special colleges play a vital role in our society and Ruskin Mill is one of the best examples of what can be achieved. I am determined to ensure that government policy provides the right framework for them to flourish.”
