Stroud Job Club formed to help people find employment
Monday, November 2nd, 200930% of people find work through friends, family or networks
Neil Carmichael, Max Comfort and Terry Morgan have established a Job Club for Stroud with the aim of helping people to find employment. The first meeting will take place on Wednesday 18 November, 10.00am, in “The Exchange”, Brick Row, Stroud. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
The Job Club is based on a model already successfully working in Dursley. The Club will help to develop a network of contacts – social, business and friends. We also provide support and advice on a range of issues connected with finding a job.
All meetings will provide advice on the preparation of CVs, job interviews and training opportunities. It is all about the sharing of experiences, learning from others, keeping busy and motivated, and feeling part of a team.
Neil Carmichael commented, “Research has proved that up to 30% of people find work through friends, family or networks. We want to provide a support mechanism for that to happen because it is all too easy to become isolated and fearful.”
Max Comfort added, “If you are not connected to your community, how can you know what the opportunities are out there? The Job Club will help you connect.”
Terry Morgan concluded, “Small businesses often do not use Job Centres to advertise vacancies so finding a job with a small business can depend on connections and old fashioned determination. Networking is useful; the Federation of Small Businesses has over 800 local members.”
